Vision, Mission, Values

The Balsam School is shaping a future where every student sees the world as their classroom—blending nature, community, and curiosity into a lifelong journey of discovery.

Mission

The Balsam School nurtures and challenges students through a broad, experiential and inquiry-based educational program, where nature and community are integral and integrated learning spaces, to become people who lead fulfilling lives and act to create positive change locally and globally.

Resilience

‘We can do hard things” was the very first motto adopted at The Balsam School. Overcoming challenges, whether large or small, emotional, mental or physical, requires the ability to push through disappointment and hardships. To see difficulties as they are (no magical thinking or catastrophization), while having the courage to push through to a successful resolution.

Self-Leadership

Acting with restraint, self-control and discipline allows Balsam students to see and understand their circumstances more clearly and make more effective choices. This includes embracing practices such as reflection and mindfulness.

Our World

Balsam students discover and embrace similarities and differences between countries and cultures. While our first responsibility is our own backyard, having a global focus ensures we understand that decisions made here affect others elsewhere.
